Default Dendrobium Barack and Michelle Obama

Singapore Botanical Gardens honors visiting world leaders with a registered orchid in their name. This one is for Barack and Michelle Obama from their visit in 2016 when he was President of the USA. (See this post for more details about the SBG.)

That is quite unusual and pretty. I tend to like the antelope type, in yellow/brown. I wish you'd given the type.

I showed all that SBG had to say on the subject. But I did a bit of research and found this article in the Straits Times newspaper:

Quote:
Dendrobium Barack and Michelle Obama is a cross between two hybrids: the Hawaiian Dendrobium Pink Lips and Singapore's Dendrobium Sunplaza Park. Each spray bears just over a dozen yellow blooms with purple lips.
FWIW, I visited Toh Gardens yesterday and they had a *LOT* of Antelope type Dendrobiums, some of them over 6 foot tall. They have a website. They work with the SBG. Boy was it hot yesterday!

You can look up orchid names at orchidroots.com and find out the species involved. In this case the plant is 18.75% Den. bigibbum (phalaenopsis) and the rest antelope species.

I'd love to know what search terms you used to find that, I did check there but couldn't find a match. I find their search engine a bit hard to use, tips appreciated!

On the home page in the search box at the top enter the genus and species name of the plant, in this case "Dendrobium Barack and Michelle Obama". You will be taken to a page showing plants with similar names, and you can pick the ones that look likely.

I was lazy and just entered Dendrobium Obama and it didn't find it. Bad search engine. :-(
