I have one as well, if you remember, that also had a questionable ID (looks very much like yours). I got it in bloom 2 years ago and I'm so happy to say that for the first time since it has a spike starting! I'm really excited because this is the first time that I'm reblooming a Paph. I wasn't watering nearly enough, and not giving enough light.

This is the first re-blooming for me after I bought it in spike. I'm really pleased as I don't think I got my first one to rebloom.

Well this one is sort of, but usually not. The spikes come out the top of the fans and when I bought it the spike was staked and upright. It's sequential so as it grew I kept staking it higher, then let the top curve over when it got too tall.

However this one I didn't notice the spike until it was almost ready to open (not been doing well caring for any of them for several months so suprised how many orchids I have in flower just now). By the time I noticed it the spike had curved over after leaving the fan and the flower opened down at the level of the pot. I couldn't do anything about it at that point and so the spike has become pendent, now dropping below the level of the bottom of the pot, so it has to hang over the edge of the windowledge or mantlepiece.

So is it pendent... well usually most people don't grow it that way, but it seems if the spike is left to it's own devices it might grow that way happily. Not sure if the spike would need staking to keep it upright or not, as this is the first homegrown spike and the others were already staked when bought.

Yea in the pic it looks like the peduncle is above the flower. Oh well. I really don't know that much about Pahps and was not that surprised that their might be one with pendant habit.

I may be wrong, but I've seen some paphs in the brachypetalum section that have pendant spikes. They were pretty short spikes though :p

Others of mine don't bow down. I have my complex bulldog type in flower and while I've supported it's spike this time in the past it's grown spikes that stayed upright without support. I also have a Maudiae type in flower at the momment and that will stand up without a stake. Vill-exul a primary hybrid of villosum and exul has had two spikes/flowers recently and both have been upright without staking.

This one just doesn't seem to have grown upwards much at all then curved over and down. When I've had this hybrid in flower in the past both had been bought already with a tall staked spike, but as the spike extended it tended to curve over unless I kept supporting it higher.

So I guess the genetics of this one mean it does tend to curve downwards, maybe relates to the sequential nature of it, the spike keeps extending and extending as each new flower grows, not sure it could indefinitely stand upright when it does that :dunno:
