You are right, almost all of paphs refered to as "maudiae" paphs are not true maudiae and it has become more like a general term to describe the type of paphs that look similar to the original maudiea or has maudiae somewhere in the breeding background.

It is strange that you got your paph under the name maudiae. At least here, maudiae types are sold with a tag showing the parent plants involved in the cross.

Paphs I buy either come in bark or sphag moss.
I keep them on the moist side but never had root issues.

Maybe yours came with problems?

Regarding paphs in LECA, I suspect roots may get a bit too dry unless you are on top of watering.
