First bloom, wonky direction? Female
Default First bloom, wonky direction?

Hello. A few months ago I got my first paphiopedilum. A "paphiopedilum shin-yi heart x hung Shen".... The grower said it would likely flower in 12-18 months. However it has started growing a flower. This is my first paphiopedilum, but I think the bloom is growing wonky. I have attached pics. Is this normal or? I haven't moved the plant at all.

Hi, Bean

Sorry about your first Paph. bloom turning out poorly like this. No, it isn't normal for a Paph. to bloom like this but they do occasionally throw some aberrant growths. Your plant is a hybrid and it may still be trying to sort out its genetics. Give it another chance (unfortunately you'll have to wait at least another year) to bloom again and see how it developes. Hopefully it will be a normal bloom.
