Cymbidiums turning yellow - Orchid Board

I am noticing my cymbidiums are turning yellow at the bulbs making its way up the leaves. I have had yellow leaves from the tips before but not from the base of the plant. Are they dying. What do i need to do to. Please help

Hi Stefan, thanks for getting back to me. As you see from the photos the yellow coming from the base and the lightish brown line where the yellow has made its way up the leaves. This is on all my cymbidiums.

I know nothing about Cyms, but that looks pretty seroius to me.

I am also interested in hearing from 'those in the know' about your case as I am in the market for a Cym right now.

it looks bad, but i dont think it is, if you get what i mean. i have a cym tracianum with the same yellowing, and it is really healthy, i think it might be a sign of sun exposure. i hope this helps, but i dont think its the right answer

just a thought, it might be aging.how long have you had it for? also is it a species or a hybrid? sorry for all the questions.

My orchids are very young. The 2nd photo has not yet flowered and are expected maybe this year or next. The other I bought flowering maybe 8 years ago for my mum which she split about 6 months ago and gave one to me. I also have cyms that are only very young and probably wont flower for a few years yet so I also dont think it is age. I do like your sun exposure thought. On the weekend we put up more shade cloth in my shadehouse to make it more shaded and create more humidity, my ferns were getting burnt/dying and drying out very quickly so to much light may be it. Like you said, other than the yellowing the plant looks very healthy (I hope!!)

Hi again, i was thinking where we live is a carrot farm (about 2kms away). We live on 3 acres and i do know people who live closer to the farm have their water treated for nitrate from the fertilizers they use (I think it is nitrate). My mother-in-law is on of these and her property is about 1km away from us. I have also noticed little traces of white power like on top of the bark. Any thoughts??

Hi . I go along with the to much sun , I really don't see any dark rot looking bulbs or leaves .
Can you get water from another source ? like RO. or rain and flush the pots out, the white on the bark may be fertilizer salts , Or lime if your water has a lot in it . Gin

Do you know the name of the cymbidium?I think some have a lot of yellow pigmentation. I am curious - maybe we could ask an expert and find out. (Have lotta cyms but not an expert.)
