Cymbidium Valley Flower "Cherry Ripe" Male
Default Cymbidium Valley Flower "Cherry Ripe"

Cymbidium Valley Flower "Cherry Ripe" is blooming this month. I bought it a year and a half ago in spike, and when it bloomed it was white with some red coloring in lip. I thought the tags may have gotten mixed as they also had a white cymbidium as well called Lucky Rainbow 'Lapine Dancer'.

Tony thinks dendros are bad, I think cymbidiums rank right up there. They change color just to see if you are watching.

Many flowers that appear to be 'colored' actually have a white base color with an 'overlay' of pink, green, etc. Good culture often intensifies the overlay color.
Who knows what culture your Cym. Valley Flower
'Cherry Ripe' received as spike was developing BEFORE you bought it? Chances are, when it bloomed last year that the flowering was not up to its full potential.
Incidentally, Cym. Valley Flower has been used as a parent of 84 offspring (Lucky Rainbow is one of these). Many offspring are described as having a white base with (varying degrees of) pale pink to deep rose marks.
Did you also buy Cym. Lucky Rainbow? It might be interesting to compare the two side by side.

Stunning Ken! I think pink is better than white so your culture seems to have improved the plant!

Thanks cneos, very interesting info. I only bought the pink one as they do take up a fair bit of real estate.
