For Mom...
I've taken over tending to my mom's garden as she passed away a few months ago...
Her cymbidiums are outdoors 24/7, 365 and based in USDA zone 10b. Took over duties in August and a few months prior, the care they received was very minimal. Since tending to them, I've only watered once a week and intend to repot come spring.
I must be doing somthing right as there are a few spikes budding (1 has bloomed) along with a few signs of new growth. Diving into this rabbit hole has helped me get closer to finding peace but has really taken over as a hobby. Using this thread as a journal and will be posting up progress and (hopefully minimal) issues and failures with ideas and methods I've learned through my years of growing aquatic plants (submersed and emersed) and hydroponics.
Looking forward to contributing more to this community!

Welcome to the Board! Condolences on the loss of your mom. There is nothing like a yard full of plants to keep the cycle of life firmly in perspective. Meanwhile, those special plants of your mother's will be like a little visit each time they bloom.

I look at plants started by my grandma for me more than a half-century ago, and it's still such a joy to have them. They bring up such warm and priceless memories of her, and gardening with her. Enjoy and cherish.

Welcome to the Orchid Board. My condolences about your mom... I am guessing that these are in California, probably coastal. Cyms are perfect for the climate (some of the best Cym climate in the world), need very little care (Mother Nature takes care of most of it) If possible, more water would be beneficial. You have gotten away with that infrequent watering because I suspect that they haven't been repotted recently, medium is likely mud. When you repot (in late winter, or spring) you will likely need to water more frequently. At that time, a top dressing of time-release fertilizer (Osmocide, Nutricote, Dynamite are examples) will make the maintenance even easier. So your challenge will just be watering frequency, especially when it gets hot next summer. When you water, do it thoroughly - so water runs out of the pot (but don't let them sit in water)

i believe very strongly that plants connect souls.
i always defer to Roberta but id have guessed 10b was in my neck (wang) of the country...but year round cyms....most likely is CA
