Default Pleione Britannia 'Doreen' - flower pics from earlier in the year

I know it's the wrong time of year for these... in fact this plant is now dormant. However I've been so bad at sorting through my photos that I've only just got around to posting these.

I love these little Pleione's. Such a different type of orchid, going dormant to just bulbs every year.

I bought this one in March and these pictures are from when it flowered in April. Let's hope I can grow it again next year as the Pleione I bought last year struggled this year

Really beautiful, Rosie! I wish Pleiones were easier to find in the US; I love them, too.

beautiful plant Rosie ....I looked at buying some of these and growin them with my zygos. Very similar conditions.

I need to get moved 1st and see what kind of carnage I suffer from that before I invest in anymore orchids on the wish list though!!!

Thanks everyone. I love them and such large flowers compared to the size of the plant.

How do you overwinter these? Do they need to be kept cold? Because I'd love to get a few, if tey don't mind winter indoors!

Man, you guys are starting a Pleione growing fad. I really really like these more and more. This is just gorgeous, and for some reason, as of late, I am attracted to stuff that requires a dormancy period. Thanks Rosie!

They are meant to be cool, but not freezing. I've been told to take them out the pot and put them in a box in the garage. JennyFluer told me she uses an eggbox in the garage.

I've actually put mine in an empty plant pot in the greenhouse which gets down to 5C (maybe a bit colder).

Maybe if you can't let them get so cold then try maculata and the similar ones. These don't go so cold and not so fully dormant. I killed mine by putting it with the others last year, it's meant to only go down to about 15C or so. It blooms October onwards (most of them bloom after dormancy in the spring) then grows again in the spring. I think there are others with similar patterns/requirements to maculata as well.
