Default Coel massengiana 'Golden Chains'

my rather large Coel massengiana (syn tomentosae) this looks like the last spike for this year, but it has been going since Aug.

Awesome! I picked up a young one of these this summer and am curious about your cultural conditions, specifically light and moisture levels around the roots. I hope my little guy grows up to look like yours some day!!

P.S. How along the maturity scale are the new growths when they first throw their spike? I have a feeling that my plant might be close to blooming size but im not sure! Thanks again!!

Steve I have it growing in high light (along side Catts.) and use it to shade some of my smaller bulbos

I try too keep it moist (it seems to be happy if it never fully dries B/T waterings)

this clone is a huge plant the leaves span a good 3 feet but I have another clone that in the same size pot would only span ~14-18 inches. the spikes emerge from the most recently matured new growth. they look very scaly and elongate very fast.

if you have a smaller growing clone I have had them bloom in 3 inch pots.......

BTW they hate re-potting....

Shirley

Thanks! hope to see you at the X-mas party....

Hi Bryan,

That's a beautiful Coel. you've got there! way to go!

I just added my first Coel. to my collection this past fall. It is Coel. mayeriana. It has a small spike forming now, and although it is a different color than your's is, I'm hoping that it displays as beautifully as I see here.

Thanks for your post!
