Brassavola nodosa Want to Live! - Orchid Board

I bought two B. nodosa at a show in January.
There were bareroot plants.
I potted them up. One of them, the one pictured here, soon turned sick for some reason.
About half the leads developed this dark dry pbs and the leaf would trun yellowish.
I was worried if it picked up some disease.
I was about to toss it but just left it there out of curiosity as to what would happen.

Well, all the "dying" growths are sending up one or two new growths each!
There are total of 8 new growths. very cute!
I think I will keep this.

The other one, healthy one, is also sending up new growths, about 5.

I wouldn't worry to much. Nodosas are very hard to kill :-)
Just be sure to let them dry out before watering. I'd pot them in coarser bark next time you repot.
I grow all my Brassavola mounted because I'm afraid of overwatering them ;-)

They are very tough I guess.
Mounting would be nice, but not an option for me.

Mine was put through the ringer and kept on going until the deep freeze hit.

This is still a baby (with so many leads already!) that has never flowered.

Good to see this, mine's done something similar with the yellowing and dropping of new leaves and is looking decidedly sickly too. It had very few living roots when I first repotted it. Hoping it starts a recovery soon.

It never occurred to me that over watering would be an issue with these, but I tend to have the opposite problem. Maybe that's why mine are so happy? Seeing this makes me wonder if I should look into more related species.

Glad it's coming back for you! They do seem to be very tough!
