Default LV62 Pot Dick Smith 'Paradise' splash petal

I just got this cattleya plant from lowes, I'm confused by the name, my other 2 cattleyas had less detail on the names. plus when I googled the main part of the name (pot dick smith 'paradise') the flower did not match the photo on the lowes bag baby tag. oh and why did the name tag have a date on it? 12/27/11 ? & what does splash petal mean?

The photo is a generic one of the type/color of the plant in the bag; it's not the specific cross/clone contained therein. They've been using those same photos for years, and the actual plants are whatever they have now of that type. In this case, it's just some splash petal catt to give you a general idea of what it should flower out similar to.

As for the tag, the LV62 would be a growers code for the batch, the 'splash petal' is the color of the flower (probably put there so their workers will pair the bagged plant with an appropriate tag), and the date is when it was last potted. Hope this helps!

P.S. just saw your other question; 'splash petal' is where the petals have a 'splash' of color other than the main one, it's a degree of peloricism (sp?) or petals taking on some degree of lip coloring/formation. In this case, it's a lovely lavender/pink that has picked up the yellow with red dash of the lip onto the petals.

According to Orchid Wiz it's Pot. Dick Smith 'Paradise'. "Splash Petal" is just a description of the flower. It is a splash Petal with lots of colors going on. "RV 62" might be some kind of inventory number that the company uses. There are yellow and purple splashes on either lavender or white petals. Very colorful.
