Large Catt about to bloom. Help

So this big Bertha of a Catt is ready to blow. I was away for a week and my mom was lookin after her. She lied and said the buds were the size of a small pea. I got to her place last night, the buds are slender, cylindrical and come to a point. They are between 1 1/2 inches and 1 in, have turned a lovely red wine colour and the lower ones have begun to split open so she is just about to bloom. Looking at the colour and shape of the buds I see a lot in common with cattleya guatemalensis but who knows what she is exactly. Will absolutely take a million pictures and post them when she flowers. I should add a "before" pic too from when I rescued her and you will see how happy I am that she is alive, let alone about to bloom

In regards to bloom boosters, my personal opinion, let me reiterate, my personal opinion, is that I seem to get smaller flowers when I use it. Yes, the plant will flower more frequently, but smaller.

I believe by using them, you trick the plant to flower, before its ready. I like to keep a constant flow of nutrients, and only add others such as potassium nitrate/epsom salts, when the weather changes, ie; cold/heat, rain/drought.

Yes, I know commercial growers use them, but they also need to have them in flower to be able to sell them. I on the other hand, can wait. I use Southern ag 13-3-16, and feed weekly weakly. Right after I fertilize, I spray them down with Pro Tek. This makes the hardier.

Once a month I flush them out, but this is an old habit, since the fert has no urea based nitrate in it, and a few days later they get seaweed/fish micronutrients.

What I am doing is giving a constant feeding through out their growth cycle. I find I get more vigorous blooms that are larger and last longer, versus forcing them to bloom.

Again, in my opinion (yours may vary)
