Default Prosthechea (cochleata x garciana) In Bloom!

Woohoo! My Prosthechea (cochleata x garciana) finally bloomed for me while I was gone the past two weeks...luckily I was told it didn't open until this last Tuesday so I have been able to enjoy it and take pictures of it. Does any one know about how long these flowers will last for?

Susanne could probably tell you, she has a couple that bloomed already. I have one, and an alba, but they haven't bloomed yet. I think they are near bloom size, cuz idle threats aren't working so far.

Becca, Congrats!! You've got a pretty little thing there - I LOVE these types. I don't know about this particular cross but the garciana has extremely long lasting flowers (over a month) and is also nicely scented when the sun shines on the flowers. Does your's have scent? I would think you've still got quite a while to enjoy them!

I am not sure if it has scent or not since it is in my orchidarium. I took it out to take pictures and I didn't notice anything. I would check it for scent now, but I have a nasty cold and I can't smell anything. Maybe the blooms will out last my cold and I will be able to find out if they have any scent to them...lol. If so I will let you know!

Just a note, Becca. I believe they need sunlight to bring out the scent... Hope you get a nice surprise!

My cochleatas seem to stay in bloom forever! I'm not sure what traits the garciana has but if the cochleata has any say in the matter, the blooms will be around for a L-O-N-G time!
