Rhyncholaelia glauca or Rhyncholaelia digbyana? Female
Default Rhyncholaelia glauca or Rhyncholaelia digbyana?

I am placing my last mail order of the year before the cold sets in, and am having a dilemma. I cant make up my mind which to choose. R. glauca or R. digbyana. Does anyone have experience with either or both, and any recommendations or personal preferences? I cant make up my own mind, and am hoping someone will do it for me!

Thanks!!

They both require the same care but for my money digbyana is so much more interesting although glauca is under rated. Bottom line beauty is in the eye of the beholder so whichever one you choose will be the right one for you.

Thanks! I might cave and order both even though space is limited right now and I already have a big order placed, because they are both so beautiful! I was just going to get glauca because there is something about it that just draws me in, but I also cant pass on that big frilly lip of digbyana. As far as scent goes, are they pretty much the same?

Welcome and Hello...sit back and relax; read postings of the members who can share with you their experiences on growing orchids...I bet youre getting both....its hard for me to get only the other and then keep on dreaming about the one left behind and say to myself: "I should have that as well..."

I know the simple solution, get both! And then get a few more to keep them company on the way to your place! Where are you getting them from? As far as I have seen, I haven't seen these two for sale on the vendor sites I usually surf.

In my conditions, Rhyncholaelia digbyana is easily the more reliable bloomer.

In your conditions, the reverse might be true.

BUY BOTH, if you have the opportunity. Either way, these species generally aren't quick to respond to a new location. I suggest that you purchase mature plants, if it's possible.

I would get both! I see that you are in Ontario and now am wondering where you are ordering from - would love to check the vendor out also - before the deep freeze!

I would get Rl. Aristocrat (digbyana x glauca) if I could find it. The good ones look like a big green glauca with a slightly frilled lip. Flashier than glauca and more gracefully restrained than digbyana.

I like digbyana , the fuzzy lip is awesome. But if you can get both without breaking the bank, you should. You're paying shipping costs anyway, and you'll probably get the other one at some point anyway, so might as well get both now!

I know, we're really no help when it comes to picking!

I like the digbyana better, but I wonder if the glauca has longer lasting flowers. Are both at the same price?
I would get the one I like better. After all when not in bloom they may look very similar and the flowers are not very long lasting. would be almost a duplicate. And if you are short on space and funds...
