Cattleya natural hybrid Male
Default Cattleya natural hybrid

Hi All,
Hopefully the folks in Brazil will respond to this one! I got this natural hybrid from an AOS judge that brought it back from columbia and raised it from flask. It just bloomed and its pretty ugly as have been all the sibs I have seen as well.. but it has character! It has no fragrance and the size is no bigger than a walkeriana flower for reference. It almost looks like a dowiana by a purpurata. Let me know if you have any thoughts!

Thanks
micah

Well its sepals are almost non-existent, not fragrant, and no substance, and small size. I talked to well respected cattleya species grower today and showed him the pics and he suggested that there is a natural hybrid from that area that blooms this time of year and its between schroderae and trianae. Looking at some pics of schroderae and given the time of year that it is blooming (end of trianea season and beginning of schroderae, it makes sense. I may give it another year but if no improvement it may have to go to the compost pile

I see what you are saying, but i still think it is kind of cute and I like colors on its lip. Hopefully it improves, I would be sorry if it ends up in a compost pile.
