L. jongheana x mantiqueirae Male
Default L. jongheana x mantiqueirae

The tag suggests it’s a L. jonheana x mantiqueirae. Not sure if it’s the same as a QF mantra or not. No fragrance. Or at least I didn’t notice.

The flowers seem very flat. Is there a preference on that?

It looks like the L. jongheana parent is dominant - L mantiqueirae boosted the color. And L. johgheana tends to be quite flat. This is lovely!

If that is, indeed, the hybrid, then it is C. QF Mantra, but to my relatively untrained eye, that looks more like C. jongheana.

Interesting. Some species are known for their cupped flowers. Is there a separate set of standard for them? Or, is hybrid the only way to improve the score?

Thank you!

I’d guess, potentially, or more likely hopefully, L. mantiqueirae can increase flower count too. This plant originally had 3 buds but 1 blasted. Since it’s the first bloom, we’ll see how it does in the future.

On the other hand, I’m not sure if this is QF mantra because, based on IOSPE, L. mantiqueirae is L. caulescens, rather than C. (Sophronitis) mantiqueirae that’s used in QF mantra.

But I’m quite new to this so I’m not sure…

Yes, the parents and their cupping is taken into account when judging. However, line breeding towards increased flatness does tend to increase the score.
