Default My First SVO Cattleya to Bloom!

Here is Pot. NEW HYBRID (Pot. Paradise Rose 'My Valentine' x Sl. Orpetii 'Hidden Treasure 4n' AM/AOS), bought in 2021 from Sunset Valley Orchids, and it’s first blooming. It’s a little hard to capture the vibrancy of the blooms but this picture comes fairly close. So happy I finally had a cattleya bloom!

us mere mortals can only aspire to the the heights that svo has reached in the recent past. this flower is fantastic, and good on u for getting it to bloom!

i personally feel that fred clarke is the orchid god of our times. a true inspiration and model for us that come behind him and those that came before him

He actually helped me pick this one. I expressed my concern of never getting a cattleya to bloom yet so he suggested a couple varieties he had for that year. This was one of the ones he suggested. I must admit, it’s been a much easier and more pleasant growing experience than I expected.

the mini catts are enjoyable and fun to grow. I have quite a few myself.

This plant has got to have the Sl Orpeti in it from Peter T. Lin. Bet my gold mine in the Yukon on it.

The force of the sophronitis is strong in this one padawan

Purple doesnt exist.
Purple is a mix of the red and blue waves overlapping as they bounce back. Purple (and all it shades) are the colors our brain interprets when looking at red and blue together.

Very nice! I've got a bunch of seedlings loaded with anticipation too!

What else did you get from him? How are they doing?

Well, maybe Orpetii came from Peter to Fred, maybe vice-versa. Peter grows a lot of his plants at SVO - he occupies about 2/3 of a big GH there. So, there is a lot of "cross fertilization" between these two excellent breeders.

The only other one I have is also a new new hybrid: Pot. Candy Flare 'Candy' x Pot. Denis Roessiger 'Xmas Candy'
It’s supposed to have striped or variegated petals, but of course with seed grown plants there’s no guarantee. However, I think I spotted a bud on this one just yesterday. I’ll be giving it to a friend to take care of so hopefully they can forward me some pictures if it blooms!
