I do like the white ones, I have about eight plants of which three have flowered and I am eager to see the others flowered. That is beautiful.

Those are fantastic. Out of curiosity, why do you not like the classic white cattleyas? Is it the size of the plants, which do eventually become monsters. They're certainly not windowsill orchids. But the scent that many of them produce is simply unbelievably good (in my opinion). Congratulations on the blooms. They're truly magnificent.

The Chadwick article mentions Bow Bells was bred from an exceptional parent which is now lost.

Steve, I admire all cattleyas, but I am a big fan of large blooms in rich colors and with contrasts between petals and lips. My collection is limited to house space, so I am selective in what I acquire. If I had more room, I may have ventured into alba and semi-alba territory. On top of that, large blooms belong to beastly plants. This Bow Bells however is medium size when compared to my other babies, so I made an exception in getting Bow Bells, also paying respect to its somewhat tragic history, with one parent lost forever, and being grown during WW II.

I like the history of some of these hybrids also, Inna, and the Bow Bells story, as told in the Chadwick book, is a good one. I recently purchased an old cattleya hybrid that was bred in Japan in 1968 simply because, well, it was bred in 1968--that, and the fact that when I Googled it, one of the individuals who described it referred to as an "antique." Since I was born in 1967, I wanted to both laugh and cringe at the description!

Congrats again on your flowers.

That's just terrible. They need to make a movie out of that one! Contract movie deal.

Final result, three flowers, two inflorescences. The fragrance is strong now.
