New buds from Cattleya Male
Default New buds from Cattleya

So I’m excited to say that I have my first set of buds from an orchid I bought from palmers orchids and I’m still pretty new to cattleyas. It has taken some time to get here. I started growing my first one last year but I haven’t had any success yet with blooms but it’s still growing so that’s definitely progress. I bought two from palmers in March and one of them is growing buds. Rlc. Dick Smith Paradise. The first photo is when they started forming. The second one is what they look like currently. I’ll definitely keep you all updated. 🌱

Wonderful photos! The silhouette of buds is always exciting and very nice to look at. Wonderful.

Default Progression pics of orchid sheath

So as you can see, there are two blooms. Will it need help to come out the sheath or will they just both pop out the sheath in a few days ? I can’t find a time lapse video of a cattleya orchid bloom coming out the sheath so I’m not sure if I should be worried yet.

Buds doing just fine escaping from the sheath... doing what comes naturally. The sheath will help support the flowers, so better to not compromise it if you don't have to. This one is doing great. The suspense thickens!

Thanks 🙏🏾 I appreciate the help! I was so nervous they were going to get stuck inside. The suspense is definitely growing. I thought phalaenopsis took forever to bloom but my goodness this one is a real mystery show

It is one of the most beautiful Potinaras and grows and blooms fast. Enjoy it.

Always amazes me that such delicate looking blooms can force their way out of the sheath.

Nice! The third photo shows the bud out of the sheath. So all systems are still go. Go at throttle up.

The sheath has a feature where something from the inside (eg. buds that and bud spike) that expands or is pushing upwards will make the sheath split open very easily. That's a feature of it.

Think "babies"... if a little resistance stopped them, the human species would be extinct.
