Thanks! Your assessment is appreciated. At least one person has flowered this plant successfully.

I actually had no idea that this plant was considered by some to be difficult to bloom until I saw this thread. I got mine from Hausermann, it arrived and had roots starting, so I repotted it into my preferred medium, then I stuck it outside with the other Catts and watered as much as it needed. I had practically forgotten about it until one day I noticed the bud poking out of the sheath. I think it depends more on personal growing habits and local climate to determine how easily it will bloom more so that some plants just being "reluctant bloomers".

I think you're right about reluctant bloomers being largely a matter of growing habits and local climate. Example would be requiring more light or short days to set flowers. I had a problem flowering C. walkeriana, a plant often described as easy to flower, until I figured out that they require more intense light than most.

Thanks for offering your comments.

When in doubt, give any reluctant bloomer more light (gradually, of course). Maybe try a fertilizer with less nitrogen also. While you want what nitrogen can do for the production of large growths, too much of it has the potential to adversely affect flower production. Good luck.

On the topic of Cattleyas with big lips...

In celebration of my upcoming success flowering Willie Wong, I rewarded myself with a division of Rhyncholaelia Digbyana 'Bronze Beard'. I haven't flowered it yet, so for now I must be content to view the seller's flower picture (used with permission). IMO, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

For reasons I can't explain, I'm partial to red, purple, or lavender on green.
