Default C. Mini Purple 'Tracy'

I was watering the orchids this morning - and some magenta/pinky colour caught my eye. I hadn't noticed that the orchid had produced a flower bud hehehe.

Fingers crossed - so that I can share a nice flower pic of this one here in the near future.

Also - time for another 'supervisor' in the background pic as well hehehe.

We had a house manager once, looking just like yours, and equally disinterested in my orchids.

His successors, however, consider anything green to be their personal salad bar.

Looks like its going to be a good colour. Has this one bloomed for you before?
Do you know if it was named after a person or the cyclone?

Exciting. I have been trying to source the clone 'Tamiami Thunder' for a while I'm not usually one for pink but its such an insanely intense pink coloration and great form that I haven't been able to forget it. Hopefully yours puts on a show!

It will be CH! This will be a first bloom for this division. I have another division that has bloomed before - where the previous owner took nice pics of the bloom ---- (link). Still waiting on that orchid to produce flowers again.

hahaha! I didn't know about your first manager Kim. But recall those pics of one of your new managers - Athena - where you brought home an orchid (link) hehehe. I didn't know that some cats are into healthy expensive diets hahaha. That was a nice set of pics.

Excellent question Diane! The cultivar name is linked to a person. I think it was the daughter of someone that happened to first grow this particular cultivar. Good pickup too- as the spelling really does have the same spelling as the cyclone! That was a big serious one for sure!

Thanks!!! Also - thanks for mentioning that one - named 'Tamiami Thunder'!

I'm currently growing a couple of 'Tamami' ones (- probably not linked to Tamiami name in 'Tamiami Thunder' - but interestingly nearly the same spelling for the T word), and one division of 'Orchid Centre' - still waiting for them to produce flower buds - hopefully this year.

Will be very nice to know in future when you acquire the 'Tamiama Thunder'! I notice SVO also having a loddigesii graced with that name too! Nice!

=========================

A quick unexpected update - but it's ok ------ not an emergency hehe. When I was watering my orchids (this is a different day now) this other morning --- I was looking at the tags of my other Mini Purple orchids, and noticed that I saw two tags with 'Tracy' written on it. Then realised that the budding one isn't 'Tracy'. Instead, the budding one right now is 'Tamami'.

But that's ok ----- I'll still use this page later to put pics of 'Tracy' when they get flowers. To make up for it ----- flowers of 'Tracy' (link here) have been seen on OrchidBoard before - but were taken by the previous owner.

Apologies all! Will still show the 'Tamami' flower here a bit later --- when it opens up - for later comparison with 'Tracy'.

To make up for the mistake about the cultivar name ----- I'll add a couple of bud opening pics taken just before sundown today - of C. Mini Purple 'Tamami'. The bud in the opening post is this one - 'Tamami'. But will definitely post 'Tracy' pics in this thread in the future when it's its turn to get flowers.

I have a feeling that your feline is going to feed on this one. The cat just looks to be asleep.

haha ..... SM ...... after hearing and seeing other growers mention that some cats really do eat orchids and plants ....... it was definitely and absolutely concerning! But fortunately - some people mention that behaviours from cat to cat can be quite different. Different behaviours and personalities. The one here took up residence at my place - initially a stray - very skinny at that time. One afternoon - it just so-happened to be hanging around in one area at home here. And I also just so-happened to had bought fish and chips for lunch. So went inside to get a little piece of fried (battered) fish ---- expecting the cat to have run off by that time. But was still there! So ----- after tossing the piece of fish over to it ------ it was then roughly about that time it (she) decided to live here ------ permanently hehe.

Also interesting in that this cat - once she took up residence here ----- absolutely does not go on excursions to other houses or anywhere. Doesn't cross the road etc. Has some quite interesting nice behaviours too. And very importantly - she doesn't damage house plants and orchids ----- although - there was one time that she rubbed her face on the side of an orchid's plastic pot ---- and the pot toppled over --- which happened once. Surprisingly that was the only time! Amazing!
