New Laelia anceps hybrid Male
Default New Laelia anceps hybrid

Several years ago, I saw Lc. Picotee Passion 'Sunset Valley Orchids' AM/AOS in bloom at Silva Orchids in NJ (first photo below). I was instantly smitten.

Since then, I have purchased a number of seedlings with that plant as a parent (all from SVO), and the first one just bloomed. It is a smaller flower, since the pollen parent (Tokyo Magic) is a compact (or near miniature) hybrid. Yet, it is still an attractive little anceps hybrid, even if the flowers on the first inflorescence are a bit cramped in presentation.

This plant grows two new growths each calendar year, and blooms on both, slightly out of sync. Since this seedling has two leads, it is producing 4 inflorescences, with 1, 2, 2 & 3 buds respectively.

With plants of this type, I can't resist tracking the family tree for 3-4 generations. This plant has multiple species surprisingly close to the current generation, as evidenced in the last photo.
