I guess in todays taxonomical world it's just plain old Cattleya. I don't know about you but I kind of liked the old naming conventions when you could tell what was in the background, at least from the higher level species perspective.

So, my collection is starting its prime blooming season here in the sunny and warm Florida Keys and old reliable 'Foxie' here is leading things off and as it should be.

39 flowers and another dozen or so buds still to open. I got this plant at a society member auction about 10 years ago from a member who grew fabulous orchids in a huge homemade greenhouse. He told me he didn't like it because the flowers didn't present high enough above the foliage for his liking. I get what he means but......

It was in a 10' basket and totally overgrown to the point I really couldn't do anything about it without doing potential catastrophic damage so stupid me just kept up-potting by dropping into increasingly large plastic field pots. I has to be getting close to 50# so in another year or 2 I'm going to have to take a bunch of divisions maybe back to that original basket and start again because it's clearly overstayed its welcome as the centerpiece on the table.

I just love almost everything about it. The flowers actually start out a creamy off yellow and within 2 or 3 days go bright white. And it's super fragrant to boot.
