Default Rlc. Normans Bay ‘Gothic’

Plants of Norman’s Bay made their way from Low’s Orchids in Great Britain to the U.S. after World War Two. ‘Gothic’ is said to have come from the original hybrid swarm. It is quite fragrant.

Thanks SouthPark - not bad for a hybrid made in the 1940’s!

The clean and clearly defined lines in the lip are almost sparkling. Stunner

Absolutely Bayard! Achieving gems like these is like lottery ...... when the numbers come up, it's jackpot time. Once it arrives, it is here to stay!

England used to be the “epicenter” of orchid collecting, but with WW II and the blitz, the vast majority of them were shipped to the US, making Long Island and NJ the new point of focus.

After the war, it took a fairly long time for the infrastructure in England to recover sufficiently, but eventually both Low’s and Black & Flory (possibly others) came into prominence again.

Yeah, they were packed and sent via ship. Between consolidation, loading, transit (if direct) and distribution, I wouldn't be surprised if they plants were bundled up for weeks.
