This is Slc. Purple Doll 'Midnight Velvet' AM/AOS x Lc. Jose Dias Castro 'Magnifica'!

It opened yesterday. Last night it had a gentle, sweet fragrance.

I discovered SVO and Fred earlier this year thanks to Orchid Board. I ordered a couple of mini catts from him. They were so healthy and beautiful that when he had his next sale, I ordered every single mini catt on his current offerings list. !! I love SVO.

These catts are beginning to bloom one by one, so more to follow!

Fantastic!!!!!! MJG - just reporting only that flickr is imposing some login constraint - requires some flickr login to see the pic. Google Drive doesn't have those constraints. Maybe there's a setting for flickr to make pics public access.

Ahh, they were are set as private. I just changed the pictures to public. Hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Very unusual flower. I can't see the lip, and it seems the two lower sepals might be fused?

I have never seen a slc like this either. Looks like a masdevila or Dracula flower on a cattleya plant

Still very pretty

i wonder if this is a deformed first blooming? I've had orchids that put out a few wacky first blooms before their true form could be appreciated. to me it appears that two of the sepals are fused and the plant lacks a labellum.

Here's the flower today. It's a bit more open.

It is very odd. As I see it there seem to be only 2 sepals, top and bottom, and no lip. The bottom sepal doesn't look like 2 fused sepals -- just one sepal there. The flower looks like a four-leaved clover with a column.

fish, I hadn't heard of the wacky first bloom phenomenon. I am really interested to see the next few blooms from this one!

Individuality is so nice!!!!! Even if it is a one-off (as living organisms sometimes do grow in some different way than the usual way). Will be looking forward to see the next flower!

I have learned with Cattleyas that the first blooming (and sometimes the second) is often not the best...at least in my conditions. It will be fun to see what happens next time.
