Lucky Ebay purchase. Male
Default Lucky Ebay purchase.

Got this Cattleya Warscewiczii on Ebay for $40. It was a seedling and end up being the biggest of my
Warscewiczii.

This is another Warscewiczii blooming right now. This is a selfing of Helena of Ospinas that suppose to be cerulean, but the gene seems to be recessive and never passed to its descendants unless another cerulean is used.

Ebay can be quite impressive in terms of getting special orchids - sometimes. Sometimes through direct ebay purchase. Sometimes indirectly by creating great friendships with the sellers after the ebay purchase. Some of those sellers are just amazing (outstanding) - special growers having connections with growers spanning a nation - so that chances are greatly improved if one is looking for a particular sort of orchid.

I agree with SouthPark. I've made great relationships with a couple of sellers on Ebay over the years. I'm even to the point where I actually trust them to find something that might otherwise be difficult for me to locate on my own--without being apprehensive about the possibility of being ripped off. So good for you if you found someone trustworthy.

On the other hand, there are some true pirates on Ebay. I kind of wish, based on feedback, that Ebay would put a little skull-and-crossbones icon next to their names. In my experience, you should probably look with a little skepticism at anyone who uses the words "rare," "choice," or "unique" in their description, especially in cases where these words accompany a picture of a plant that looks like it was just yanked off a neighbor's tree in some Floridian back yard, or a runt of a seedling that appears to have been stepped on a dozen times before the picture was taken. Okay, I apologize for going off on a bit of a tangent. Good luck with your Ebay connection. It looks like you got a couple of nice Cattleya warscewiczii plants.

No idea. This was one of those "Buy Now" auctions. I like the price, the plant and I pulled the trigger. Sometimes I stalk a plant for days an snipe it at the end, but this was not the case, so I do not remember the seller.
