This is a plant I got as a division from Tropical Orchid Farm when I last popped over to Maui (2 years ago?) and it was labeled as Gongora "New Species Peru." The colors were really cool and the scent is REALLY amazing! Very spicy. Jeff was kind enough to cut off a division from his specimen collection and sell me a sliver. This one (like most Gongoras) is fast growing and easy to cultivate. Anyway, last year it bloomed and our very own orchid wiz kid (Mahon) thought that it looked just like Gongora rufescens, so that is what it is labeled as now.

Yes it has many flowers during the year..... Here are the two versions.... one white and other yellow....
Try the Gongora scaphyphorus the scent is better than the rufescent and the spike has more flowers.... I count one spike with 50 flowers.....

Wow, 50 flowers on a spike?! Thats awesome! Ill have to try the scaphyphorus for sure then. Does it smell better than the escobariana? That one is my favorite Gongora scent.

Yes, this is Gongora rufescens; it occurs on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Ecuador and Peru. Some of the Peruvian plants have a white base color, and lack the yellow, but the fragrance is the same.
