Fredclarkeara After Dark 'SVO' spike watch
Not a mini! The plant is in an 8 inch (20 cm) bulb pan, and it is stuffed. There is also a spike at the back that got caught between 2 monster p-bulbs and partially blasted and another from that area that I lost the same way. But these two spikes look good. This beast is likely to get divided after it blooms...I could up-pot it, and it may need to be huge to bloom, but it's almost too heavy to lift already. It is starting to drop leaves, by the time it blooms it will be easier to see the p-bulbs, (Likely will be pretty leafless by that time) The largest ones are about 10 inches (25 cm) tall and 3 inches (7.5 cm) in diameter.
This is the cultivar "Sunset Valley Orchids". "Black Pearl" is just starting to spike - it will be completely dormant by the time it blooms. For me, this grex is a late-season bloomer.

My After Dark is just starting to spike too! I have the 'Black Pearl' clone. This is the first time it has bloomed in several years.
You see, I have struggled with mental health my entire adult life. I was diagnosed bipolar when I was 19. I'm 41 now and through the years, it has been better at times, and worse at others. The last two or three years have been incredibly difficult. I lost interest in pretty much everything I like. That's why you haven't heard from me here much for a while. During this time I was taking horrible care of my plants.
But I'm finally getting better and I'm started to get interested in things again. I'm enjoying taking care of my plants and I'm enjoying coming here to talk to all the friends I've made here. Right now, I have my FDK in spike, and my RLC George King 'Serendipity' is in bud. Other than my recent S. tigrina bloom, I can't even remember the last blooms I had, and I used to always have plants in bloom all year long.
Anyway, I have two plants in spike right now, and it doesn't seem like much, but for me it's a bit of a triumph.
Roberta, I can't wait to see your blooms, and when mine blooms, and my George King, I'll be just so thrilled to share with you guys. I am so excited.
That was a bit of a tangent there, but I wanted to congratulate Roberta, and share my current excitement over just two plants in bud that seem like an incredible accomplishment for me at this time haha.
Anyway, thanks guys for listening (you always do), and I can't wait to see all your blooms and share all of mine.

I look forward to seeing your Fdk bloom too! So glad that you're getting involved again. My After Dark has done nothing but grow pseudobulbs for several years, not even all that well. The 'SVO' clone has bloomed better, but also turned into a monster. So while all orchids teach patience, I think that these teach even more patience, and frustration tolerance as well. Here's wishing you flowers! And healing...
