Showing the nice pic with the two nodules diametrically opposite on this season's bulb. The spike and buds are not on that bulb.

Finally - some opening activity!

The nice thing is that my memory didn't fail me when I recalled that the seller did mention the flowers are meant to be very dark ('black') in colour like an 'SVO Black Pearl' - and that it wasn't a 'SVO Black Pearl'.

The other two young spikes are doing well - so expecting to get more flowers later on - maybe a few weeks or a month away.

Looks like the buds really do originally start with reddy burgundy type colours when developing, and then eventually become darker and darker burgundy - giving the appearance of 'black'.

Some nice opening activity pics uploaded here!

Dorchid and Jeff ------ totally agree! I didn't know the behaviour before - as in I didn't expect that they do a fairly abrupt darkening just prior to flower opening time. I recently started to question my memory ----- as in thought the seller really did sell me an arbitrary After Dark.

That's because ebay erases ebay messages after some period of time, which I didn't know before too! So wasn't able to confirm what I remembered they had wrote in the messages.

Adding a couple of nice pics from this morning. The higher amount of light illuminating the flowers reveals the dark burgundy colour. But when the illumination is less - what the people say is indeed true - in that the flowers appear to the eyes to be very dark - the appearance of 'black'.

The new spikes are currently developing under much cooler conditions - so it will be interesting to see if the burgundy goes even darker with lower temperature development.

Some flowers maybe fully open now.

A couple of images allowing different amounts of light through the lens. In the shade, the flowers are quite dark indeed - and the images give some appearance of a bunch of darth vader helmets hahaha ---- imagery.
