I know it's not L. tenebrosa. That I would have remembered 100% because I love them and I would have been surprised to find one there. It was definitely a hybrid.

Hi Ben,
I'm not saying yours isn't a tenebrous. The one I have isn't a tenebrose because I would have remembered that name. It's a hybrid. That much I do remember. Better Gro does use the same picture for different orchids. If they have a picture of a white catt with a colored lip it could have something like Lc. Chyong Guu Swan 'Ruby Lip', Laelia purpurata 'Grande', Cattleya Sheila Lauterbach 'Equilab' FCC/AOS , Lc. Stephen Oliver Fouraker 'EFG' HCC/AOS etc.

After reading this thread I decided to look up pictures of my Better Gro orchid based on the variety listed on my tag/bag. Other than being a green variety it did not match the picture at all. Kind of false advertising... I can’t recall if there was some fine print though.

Better Gro's picture tags usually have a description such as "Orange and art shade" or "Brassavola hybrid", or occasionally something more specific, like "Dendrobium spectabile". The first two just give buyers a general idea of the appearance of the plant, but the third one is very specific. If they indicate "Encyclia cordigera" on the bag, I've _NEVER_ found that they have substituted "Encyclia tampensis" in it's place (for example). They always include a tag within the bag that gives the hybrid or species name, I have never found these to be inaccurate. They don't have picture tags representing every exact hybrid or species they sell. As an accurate tag is provided inside the bag, and you can read it in the store, I feel that they have accurately represented. I can understand that you may feel differently.

If you shop carefully, look up the hybrid or species on the inner tag, you can often get very good plants at a very good price, often species or awarded clones (assuming you don't buy 2 months after the retail store got the plant). Sometimes I've gotten mature plants in bud for a $12.00 seedling price. These Better Gro plants are a great bargain if you are just starting orchid growing, but it is always a good idea to look up the hybrid or species on the tag (smart phone) to make sure it is what you want.

Understood. I had posted earlier on this thread, I think. Losing tags is unfortunate, but accidents do happen.

My point is that the OP did buy a tagged plant, and with that tag, would know what to expect when it blooms. At Better Gro's typical retail price of $12 for a near blooming size young plant ($7 for a smaller seedling), that is a great deal. Even as a lost tag NOID it is probably not a bad deal. IMO, Better Gro has represented responsibly.

I always check the Better Gro plants at my local store for possible diamonds among the rough.
