When I grew them in the window, I watered about once a week because of the cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Now, as they are under lights, I water them about three times a week. When they are outside for the summer, it depends on the temperatures. When I water, I try to water well.
The lava rock is sort of like brand new bark but it just never decays and holds more water.
