my phal is flowering for half a year now, and still going strong..
Default my phal is flowering for half a year now, and still going strong..

It's flowering since Jan., and now still have 14.5 flowers on it, and more little buds growing. The 0.5 is for a flower that didn't form completely. The picture below is showing the first batch of flowers.

Is there anything I should worry about it flowering so long? Such as it uses all it's energy, and leave an unhealthy plant behind? Or maybe it will take a long break afterward and skip the flowering next year?

Welcome any thoughts or suggestions!

Someone on here will answer your question-- I haven't encountered this issue yet.

All I can say is wow! That's a long time to bloom and a lot of flowers!

whatever energy was given by the plant to the spike to produce flowers is done. It will not receive anymore....except the moisture it gets from around it or it will all dry out and wither....
notice if there are new roots or new leaves....it means it is gathering energy for the next blooming cycle while the current flowers are still looking fresh....
you have a hybrid and you might just keep on having flowers....

I let the plants do what they want to. They know what they're capable of more than I do. Congratulations on the long lasting flowers. Good growing.

My orchid is blooming since April 2013, I am not sure when it started because I got it then all bloomed with some buds! It starting to look little tired, leaves look kinda wrinkly and I am not sure what to do. Roots look healthy, so I guess that wrinkliness is from non-stop flowering. When spike started to yellow, it dried to around half and then another branch came out! Really fascinating! Your orchid is beautiful...

I would assume as well that your plant is very content with how you're caring for it and as long as its roots and leaves look healthy keep it up! Beautiful flowers and great job!

If your leaves are wrinkly but your roots are good you may well need to reevaluate your watering strategy as wrinkly leaves are a sign of some degree of dehydration. My two cents...

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts! I once read it somewhere that orchids can flower themselves to death. So I was a little worried, haha. I guess that's probably just a joking expression,
The plant itself is not doing much other than showing the flowers -- no new root or new leaf. The old leaves are still looking green, just like 6 months ago.

AuroraPhal, do you mean your orchid is blooming for over a year? That is fascinating!

lotis146 - thank you for tip, I will try to water it more often, although I'm scared to water it too much, I heard that less is more when it comes to watering orchids.

Berrybee - yeah, it is blooming over a year, and I don't know for how long it will bloom. Bad thing is that she has terminal spike, and I am so sad about that, but I hope for keiki...
