Default Yellow webs in Blc. Greenwich 'Elmhurst' roots

I got a package of orchids in the mail yesterday and only had time enough to unpack them before I had to leave for work. So this morning I have been checking roots and repotting. Everything has been going great until I got to my first cat; I pulled it out of the pot and there is weird yellow stuff everywhere in the root mass. It looks little dots of something with yellow webbing between them. I'm not sure if it is mold or insect eggs of some sort. I did notice that there was a bit of sticky stuff on one of the new growths while I was unpacking it and I wiped it off, but it was there again this morning.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be and whether I should try to fix it or just have the plant replaced since I just got it yesterday?

Hopefully the pics are some help, I only have the camera on my phone and it isn't the greatest.

Hi Nicki. It is kind of mold or fungus in the potting medium. Not really harmful to the plant by itself as the roots look okay. But a decomposing medium needs repotting and spring is the best time to do so. So get a clean pot and fresh medium and don't hesitate.
A nice shoe in the background too.
