B. Little Stars question - Orchid Board

What is it growing from the left leaf of my B. Little Stars? It looks like tiny bud to me, but with it being my first Brassavola and very small plant too, I just wanted to make sure it is in fact a bud and not a second leaf.
Could anyone see it and let me know please? Thanks a lot!

Wish I could tell you, but none of my brassavola have bloomed yet. Looks like it is in the right place for a spike though.

Looks like a spike developing! I have a B. Grand Stars that is currently sending up 2 spikes - a little further along than yours.

Here's my B Grand Stars (Little Stars x nodosa 'Remar') in bud. I just purchased this plant at our local orchid society meeting so I can't take credit for bringing it into bud. A fellow member bought a community pot of seedlings last year from H & R Orchids and was selling many of them last month.

I had a B. nodosa hybrid many years ago and it flowered faithfully every year with no problems blasting; I can't see this cross being any different - keep it away from cold drafts while developing.

Thanks for the pic, TDT. I wish we could get more pics of how the spike comes out of the plant. Would clear up alot of these questions for those of us who don't know. Is it safe to peel the dry sheath before you see spike developement?

Yes, it's a bud ! They come out at the base of the leaf where it attaches to the cane. And, NO, best not to mess with the sheath. Brassavolas are tough critters, the semi-terete leaves will tell you that they can handle as much sun as you can accustom them to ! My cordata goes outside for spring-summer-fall !
