yellow leaves on phals?? Female
Default yellow leaves on phals??

Hi all, I am brand new to the forum so please forgive me if this question has already been tackled before (which I am sure it has!). 2 of my phals have leaves that have turned yellow , making the plants look rather unwell. The flowers have been good, but wilting now, presumably coming to the end of flowering time. Roots seem ok although I haven't taken the phals out of the pots to inspect closely. Should I be worried about the yellow leaves and shall I cut them off? Thanks for help in advance. Pam

Hi Pam!
Where are the yellow leaves on your Phals? If it's the lowest leaves then it's likely to be normal leaf drop and in that case you can leave them alone until they fall off naturally. If they are elsewhere on the plant, then there is something else going on. If you have some photos that would help tremendously. If you need help posting pics, don't hesitate to ask!

Looks like they're just dropping old leaves.

I would agree that it's old leaves.

However I would also say the good ones look slightly dehydrated and phals will drop old leaves sooner if they don't have enough water to support them.

Sometimes the way the roots look on the outside of the pot can be hiding a problem inside, or it may be that you are not watering enough. I would check the roots by gently unpotting. If you still think they look good and there are lots of them then maybe up the water slightly. However if there are only a few roots (even if they are good) then it may be best to carry on watering as you are because it could just be that there are not enough roots and watering more will cause problems if there are not enough roots to absorb it.

Rosie, if you find that you have damaged roots, and the leaves are wilting due to the fact that the plant is not hydrated enough, how do you proceed with watering? Should you water less, more, a different method? I have a phal that was doing well until recently I found the leaves wrinkling, unpotted and found root rot, of course. The plant is in the middle of budding right now. I am applying peroxide to the roots every few days, but am unsure about the watering. I did repot into a smaller pot as I suspect the pot was part of the issue.
