Hi Mike, she is very pretty, love that yellow lip. I think most of us get our first Phals from a hardware store or supermarket. I got mine from Bunnings which is like Home Depot, 40+ Phals later.............lol

Mind you the Phals at Bunnings range from AU$30-$60 depending on the size/spikes, not cheap. Orchids are expensive here in Western Australia because of our quarantine laws. My most beautiful Phal is also a noid, got her from a florist shop in a mall. She cost me AU$50 in April and has only just dropped one of her blooms. She also has two more spikes growing rapidly and will be blooming in a few weeks time.

I like this one, too. Why is it that some of the large white Phals have a cut in on the upper edge of the outer two petals - must be one of the parents. Does anyone know? Mine has this feature although there is hardly any yellow on its lip.

Hi Mike, Australias quarantine laws are virtually the strictest in the world. No plants, plant materials, food, animal products are allowed into the country without very expensive licensing and heaps of paperwork. Not only that but Western Australia, the state that I live in, has the strictest laws in the country. Again no plants etc are allowed into WA from other parts of Australia without licensing and spraying which is very expensive. Because of this I'm not able to get a very good range of orchids which tend to be grown over in the eastern states. All of this makes the orchids that I can get here expensive.
