My phal is going basal keiki crazy Male
Question My phal is going basal keiki crazy

I have had this phal for just over 3 years now. I have managed to get it to flower every spring (I seem to get them to flower any time from end of January to beginning of march).
I recently re-potted them with new compost and it looks really healthy. Soon after re-potting loads of new roots started growing and then what I thought was a new flower spike which turned out to be a basal keiki also started to grow. The basal keiki now has a few good looking leafs.
I went on holiday during August (a family member come over to water the plants and feed my 2 Mississippi Map Turtles) and when I come back to my surprise another basal keiki is growing on the other side of the mother plant. The mother plant still looking in great shape.
Is this normal to have 2 growing pretty much at the same time? does this mean the mother plant might be suffering from some kind of problem?

Will take some pictures later when I get a chance.

(recently repotted, looking healthy),sounds good to me. Keikis make me happy, I glad to see them. You will have a beauty if they will bloom at the same time.

Maybe it was bumped a little or shifted some in the pot. But sounds like no harm done. Enjoy!

I also have a Phal 'Everspring King' sending up two basal keikis.I can't wait 'til all three bloom at once.I don't really know the background parentage of my plant[it was a gift,I usually grow species plants],but I do know that Phal[Doritis] pulcherima is used a lot in breeding and it[Doritis ]is clump forming. Sorry guys for taking ages but here are the pictures like i promised

Note: I am using the pot saucer to avoid any compost and/or little of water from damaging the furniture. I don't let the water sit on the saucer.

Thanx, most of the know-how came from this forum and a bit of google search, mixed with a bit of luck and risk I think I managed to pull it of, though I still think I am a novice. My collection now includes Phalaenopsis, Oncidium, Cymbidiums, Dendrobium Berry Oda and Dendrobium Spring Dream 'Apollon', Cambria, and very recently got hold of a miltoniopsis, mother in law nearly killed it , and brought a paphiopedilum maudiae - green / white.

Wish I could get more but currently very limited in space. Living in central London in a flat with no garden is tough

Your Phal. looks beautiful, very healthy. Can't wait to see the flowers. Lucky you. I have been trying Keiki paste to propagate from one of the nodes, below the flowers. I hope I have some luck.

well luckily I did take a picture back in beginning of February when the first 2 buds opened up.

just to give you an idea of what it looked like when all the buds opened up. This Phals had 3 flower spikes of which they all branched.

I believe this is a Phalaenopsis Malibu Bistro variety but brought it as a NOID.

Beautiful flowers, Carlos, how do you ever get any computer work done. Mine would have to be out of sight, I can't keep my eyes off them. Att. picture of my 3 phals. I am trying to get keikis off the spotted one.The one in the middle is a white one, soon to come into bloom. The spotted one has been in flower for 5 months. My phal is going basal keiki crazy-img_1248-1-jpg

Have one very similar to your spotted one but i have to admit the flower from yours looks nicer. Your has more white than red, mine is the other way round. Has more red than white. Actually i have a picture

By the way how long have you had you Phals? they look still to be young. Reason i say this is because when i brought mine they looked to be same size as yours. 3 years later ... well u can see from the previous replies. Ohh and Phal is not next to my laptop while i work . i just put it there to take picture, normally is on my windowsill just behind the table
