Default Thoughts on fertilizing

I read earlier on a website (allow me to quote) "Fertilizer can also be applied with every watering at one quarter recommended dilution. Thorough flushing with clear water every month is recommended to prevent buildup of fertilizer salts."

I would like other members opinions on this. Personally it sounds like a no-brainer to me, but what would the overall outcome be?

There is always a little fertilizer in my water. I figure that's the ways they get it in nature, there is nobody up there that turns on the fertilizer spigot one time and not the next.

Guess that's it in a nutshell, no spigot above to fert on any particular time schedule.

I'm glad to see your response Rob, I as well fert regularly meaning each watering...my spray bottle gets a big workout. After I read this I felt that I was not doing so bad with my scheduling as my water-bottles always have fert in them, actually after flushing with tap water, I do not trust the chemicals in our city water so I merely use the bottled water (rain water when applicable) to cleanse the ka-ka mung from the cities finest. I appreciate all your opinions...tks

Heres what I do, I water once a week with tap water then fertilize with MSU @ 1/2 tsp per gallon of rain water for three weeks then the fourth week water real good with tap water only, it works well for me. Jim.

Somewhere I heard that if you use tapwater then it's better to let it sit for a day or so in the watering can. Here the hot water comes out milky but if you let a glassful of it sit out it clears up.

Oh noooo!! I feel like an old mizer now! Cheaping out on the fert for my babies! I fertilize one week, flush the next week, pure water for the next two weeks, and then fert again on the 4th week.

Could you live on eating food just once with nothing else but water???

Can you hear them crying..."feed me, feed me..."?

I'm of the "how is it in nature" camp as well.

I've fed everything in my greenhouse - mounted, in baskets, s/h, PrimeAgra in plastic pots, EpiWeb in plastic pots - with fertilizer at every watering for the last 6 or 7 years with no issues whatsoever. The last three have been with 125 ppm N using the GreenCare MSU RO formula, before that it was with Dyna-Gro "Grow" at about 50-75 ppm N.
