Dalachin, are you located in Ithaca NY as your bio suggests? If so, unless you have really superb new windows and a near perfect AC system in the summer, I think you may be underestimating how much the temp really does change between summer and winter on a windowsill in our region of the world. Everything I've ever read about phals says they do need a temp change to induce spiking, and I think windowsills in the northeast readily provide it.
