Virus or disease on oncidium type orchids? Male
Default Virus or disease on oncidium type orchids?

Hello,

I have an oncidium, a bratonia, and a odontoglossom that have all developed small black dots and deformities on the leaves (See photo). I am weary these could be symptoms of a virus/disease but I am unsure. I dropped the oncidium and bratonia near a tomato planter infected with fusarium and they both developed injuries. I am worried they could be infected and possibly spread to the rest of my collection. I have isolated them and treated them with a probiotic solution, but does anyone know what this is or how I should go about remedying this issue?

Thank you for you help,

Nicolas Perez

Go to the Web site of the St Augustune Orchid Society for fusarium photos. You can't identify virus infection without a virus test.

It doesn't look like a virus to me but more like too much sun, cold or spider mites.

Has it been in too cold and humid conditions? Or in the sun?

Some Oncidiums (and some members of the Oncidium family) seem to be very prone to spotting on the leaves. Someone in our orchid society sprays the leaves with the original brown Listerine and says that it prevents the spots. It might be this.

Here is the link for the disease PDF:
