ughghgh, sometimes i can get so snooty about orchids. but i have to just say that noids are the best!!!! here is our noid phal, the one that got me started on orchids, and our best plant. didn't bloom this year, but i don't care.

and i know we can't id noids, but this is fo sho a phal paprika

also, hopefully face recognition isn't so good that this somehow links to other digital sources, but for once i felt like kinda showing my face, hahahahaha

buy up them noids and be proud!

edit to add, she puts on 4 leaves a year without blinking an eye

Sometimes I think that tags with names inhibit blooming. The mutts and mongrels do very well. And they're pretty . (The ugly ones don't get nurtured, natural selection)

Haha! Great picture! I have a favorite NOid phal too! I have a bunch of holier-than-thou species cattleya and one noid phal. I'll never get rid of it, it just grows and grows and blooms for like 4 months a year.

That is indeed a beautiful Phalaenopsis! Some of my favorites in my own collection are NoIDs.

Hmm, and for some reason, you yourself remind me of the character named Wilson on the old TV sitcom "Home Improvement."

"well hidey ho, neighbor, that certainly does bring back some memories. like the time old aunt myrtle won the orchid competition at the county fair. turned out the orchid was plastic but the judges didn't seem to mind too much."

(disclaimer, we don't own any plastic orchids, but did love me some wilson back in the day!! hahaha)

Tmoney, that is a very nice noid Phal.

I got started with them, too.
I am still not very far into the addiction but I have learned that these guys are very tough and forgiving.

I saw a light bulb spray painted green then wrapped in frayed cotton batting with green toothpicks glued onto it win a ribbon at a cactus show.

I recall a delightful talk by Frank Fordyce, the wonderful hybridizer (and charming person) who is no longer with us... He described accidentally breaking the lip of one of his magnificent Catts while setting up for a show. He grabbed a piece of decorative kale and stuck it on as a "replacement" and described the glee of watching the judges "oooh" and "ahhh" over it. I don't recall if it got a ribbon, but it did get attention!
