My First Catt - Is It Time To Repot?
Default My First Catt - Is It Time To Repot?

Hello Everyone,

Yes, I swear I actually read this forum and am not intentionally trying to be redundant! I understand that you are supposed to repot when you see new roots growing. What I am asking for clarification on is it any new root, or do I wait until the new growths are putting out roots? As you can see, there is a new root coming out, but it is from an old growth.

It is a Cattlianthe Jewel Box Dark Waters. And should I repot it? The bark doesn't look too bad, but I'm not sure how it looks further down. I just bought it in February, so don't know how long ago it was repotted. My plan is to go up one pot size and use orchiata. It will be kept around 72 degrees and arbout 50% humidity.

Thank you for answering the same questions over and over again

I would wait a bit longer, until you see lots of new roots forming. They will soon.

You can wait for more roots, but you want to repot just as the little green tips are just starting to peek out - you want to catch it while the roots are still emerging since it's nearly impossible to not cause damage to some of those tender tips while repotting, but if there are more coming you are safe. And the new roots will quickly adapt to their new medium. This one root might have been an "outlier" so worth waiting for evidence of more action but do keep an eye on it. Note that for some, the new roots start at a different time than the new growth. So watch the roots not the growth to determine "when".

Ok, thank you both! This plant is a pretty good size, and I don't want to harm it. I'll be watching for more roots to pop out and will repot quickly once they do.

This is a very sturdy plant. After you repot at the proper time it will grow vigorously.
