Default Algae

Will algae on exposed roots and/or in s/h pots harm the plant? If so, will Physan eliminate the algae?

Doesn't hurt anything, other than perhaps aesthetically.

Thanks WW. That's what I remembered hearing before, but wanted to double check. I was called on the carpet for roots that looked bad on a cattleya that I was killing by putting it in s/h culture. All I could do was shake my head.

If that’s the worst thing you get called in the carpet for this week, consider it a win! Was likely also unsolicited.

I have a great algae collection in my S/H pots.

You could have offered some style and dietary advice to your benefactor.

Yes. Completely unsolicited. All I did was post a pic of my setup. The guy felt it was his duty to extoll his vast experience. I showed him to the s/h pages at Ray's site.

Physan may be a way to prevent algae growth, but I don’t recommend doing anything to kill what’s present, or you’ll end up with a lot of dead tissue to help clog up the pot.
