Urgent advice needed! Roots emergency!
Default Urgent advice needed! Roots emergency!

I made a bad mistake by not planning ahead. I unpotted my two slipper orchids today worrying they are being suffocated in moss that I over watered. I totally forgot that the replacement pots have not arrived yet. I got rid of their junk.barks and junk moss (one in each) and realized I have nothing to pot them in.... Well I have to leave for a work event in half an hour so I cannot pot them tonight.....
They are in water as shown. Is that OK? If Amazon doesn't come tonight should the roots be left in this much water overnight?

Don't leave them in water. Those roots look fine. (Paph roots tend to be brown and fuzzy, not like the velamin-coated roots of a Phal) If you have some bark, use it. The pot is OK - you should poke some holes in it. Or, just empty out the water and gently put a damp paper towel in the pot to keep the humidity up. And stop stressing!

Thanks Roberta! Their roots are so ugly but so strong. The tight media from the shop were truly smelly but I only saw one dead root on each. Thank you for.your guidance I will get them situated soon!

As long as they are healthy, no such thing as an ugly root! You can tell by looking at them that they have a different habitat than Phals and Catts and such... Paphs grow in leaf litter on the ground, or in pockets on cliffs, a rather terrestrial environment. So access to moisture is fairly constant. Phals and Catts and Vandas and most of the other orchids we grow are epiphytes, growing on tree branches or trunks where they have to grab water from the rain and then dry out somewhat when the rain stops, so they have that spongy velamin to hold on to transient water (and thick leaves and/or pseudobulbs to also store water).

There is also no need to be in a rush to repot them before your supplies arrive.

Imported plants often arrive bare-root and take weeks to arrive at their final destination. Dip the roots into water every day or two and it’ll be fine while you wait.
