See-Thru Brown Spot on Oncidium Leaf
Default Brown Spot on Oncidium Leaf

I was looking at my Oncidium and I moved aside some leaves and saw on the new growth(or at least what I think is a new growth) there’s a brown spot.
It was probably there when I first got it and I probably just didn’t realize since it was covered behind some leaves. Does anyone know what it might be? And will it affect the new growth?

There's a chance a bug or a snail might have eaten a hole in the leaf. Don't worry for now, but watch to see whether more of these holes open up.

Is the plant potted completely in sphagnum moss, or is that just on the surface? I try not to let my Oncs in sphagnum moss get as dry as what I see there.

I agree with Estación. The fact that it is a real hole all the way through rather than just a spot makes me think something took a bite out of it like an insect or snail.

All the fungal and bacterial spots I’ve ever seen don’t go all the way through the leaf. Usually, the ones I get look like some weird, sometimes sunken pattern (fungal) or a mushy spot that looks slightly transparent like a wet paper towel (bacterial).

Unless lots of other spots like that start appearing, I wouldn’t find it too concerning either.

Some of the roots also look like part of it got munched or broken off. Is that a sign of pests? I’ll post an image back in the main post.
