Question about bumps on leaf; Peristeria Elata Female
Default Question about bumps on leaf; Peristeria Elata

I received two orchids in the mail today from OrchidWeb. One was a phalaenopsis bellina and the other was a Peristeria Elata. The peristeria has these tiny bumps on one of the leaves; what are they and are they worrisome? (edema perhaps?) Also, a bunch of the soil fell out of the pot during shipment. It's quite loose in its pot; I snuggled it in my sloth pot temporarily to keep it more secure. I have coco peat coir on the way that will be delivered tomorrow I bought specifically for this plant. Should I repot this as soon as I get that in?

ETA, It looks like they sent me the wrong peristeria too. I ordered a 4-6 bulb and unless I'm really bad at counting, lol ... I could swear there are only two.

Have you contacted the vendor? That should be your first step. I have found them to be very responsive.

Yes, I sent him an email regarding the spots and them sending me the wrong plant. I'll see what they say.

I've never seen that on mine. It looks like edema or burrowing insect larva infestation, like the galls you see on leaves outdoors.

I wouldn't use straight coir for this. There's not enough air at the roots. Any Cymbidium mix should work well. Mine is in a mix of extra large perlite and commercial bagged potting soil.

If I were repotting that plant I would use a pot at least 6"-8" diameter. These are very large plants that do poorly in too-small pots.

The coco peat I bought was going to be used as a supplement to the Cymbidium mix I bought from repotme Do you think I should repot it now into the bigger pot? I've got a 6" pot I can use. Normally, I don't rush to repot, but like I mentioned earlier in my post, it's not very stable currently.

Wait until you hear from the vendor before you do anything.

I will ... I'm not sure if they'll want me to send this one back or whatnot, guess we'll see what they say. Hopefully they get back to me soon.

im no expert, and i would also suggest not doing anything till you hear back from them. but i just wanted to add that we got a paph lowii around feb that had the same looking bumps on one leaf. we ignored it and the new leaves that grew this summer were just fine and normal and haven’t see anything hatching from the bumps. the leaf is still green and bumpy and doing just fine. so while i don’t know, so far it seems pretty non critical. just my 2 euro sents

I did hear back from them this morning. It's spider mite damage . They didn't say anything about replacing it nor did they mention anything about sending me the wrong one. **They did just get back to me regarding the wrong plant. They're going to send me the correct in exchange for my sending back the 2-bulb**

Did you ask them to take back the infested plant? If yes and you got no satisfaction, I would send a demand for a refund. Also, they should pay for shipping plants back to them. If they don't satisfy you, leave negative feedback. I would probably leave at least a neutral comment siting the facts of the incident.
