Default Paphiopedilum with yellowing and brown leaves

Hello dear orchid lovers,

I have a problem with my Paphiopedilum. I was on a holiday for a couple of weeks and a friend took care of my orchids and plants. Everything went just fine except for my Paphiopedilum.

I noticed a couple of things:

- the new growth started to have brown leaves and are a bit crispy
- all the leaves are a bit droopy and not standing up firm
- the older leaves are yellowing and get a different texture (I guess that's normal)

I attached a couple of pictures.

Humidity level 65%
Half shadow - but enough non direct sunlight

[Sorry, English is not my first language]

Did your friend take the inner pot out of the decorative pot to water? Did your friend fill the outer pot with water and let the plant stand in water?

When did you last repot the plant into new potting medium?

This could be caused by not enough water. It could be caused by the plant standing in water. It could be caused by damaged roots. Damaged roots can happen when the potting mix gets old and there is no more air in the mixture.

I agree with ES, but will add that the failing of the new growth may be due to the plant having water poured over it, allowing the water to be trapped between the leaf bases.

Unfortunately, you will likely lose that fan altogether.

I agree with you...the yellowing leaves are the old ones . Perfectly normal. Take a look at my Paph leeanum with older leaves.

The only thing that stands out to me is the rot in the new grow. As ES and Ray said, it may have been caused by water trapped inside the leaves. It can happen with lower temps and lack of air circulation.
