It isn't easy to see from the picture, but my small tolumnia has a band of sphagnum wrapped around the shingle about a 1/4 inch below the plant. With daily watering it keeps the shingle moist and the root tips can grow into it. This arrangement is kinda-sort similar to your suggestion, which I may need to use when the heat comes on this winter (which in Mississippi is December). Yours is a good idea, and I may need to use it later.

If y'all can't tell, I'm, in effect, new to Tolumnia. That is, it's been many years since I killed one, and it isn't because I know how to grow them. But my wife likes them and I can easily keep 1000 of them in my greenhouse.

We're not that far apart. I may show up and store my wanted plants in your greenhouse!

My wife was born in Lake Charles.

What do you mean your "wanted" plants. Is there a warrant for their arrest?

I have a want list (wish list) a mile long. My issue at the moment is room. I'm keeping most of my acquisitions mini and compact for the time being. Larger plants will come after we move and I establish a decent greenhouse or other growing area.

Let me know if y'all are ever in the area for a visit. Coffee is on me.

Will do.
I've moved, orchid collection and all, 5 times (WI, CA, WA, IA, ME, and MS. It is always a massive headache. It is an especially big problem to move before a location for plants at the destination end can be prepared.

Edit. I'm 65. Will I be an old man next year?
