It will be difficult to keep Phals in winter if they regularly drop below 15C near the window, unless the next day is very warm. It would be like leaving a human baby outside.

Look up posts by greenpassion. She grows in a cold house in Vermont. She found using heating mats made a big difference.

There are orchids which are fine at 15C and below, but not Phals.

yo dude,

as a fellow newbie, i would just share my experience that orchids you buy from stores, or even pro orchid growers, seem to come in “soil” that is pretty old or not really the best for home growers. so, echoing what others have said, if you have not repotted them since u bought em, you may want to replace the medium with new bark. the plants we have had issues with are all old ones that were still in the soil from the nursery. when we replanted, even with nice green roots visible on the outside, the inner roots have all been rotten and we have pretty much lost one and have saved about 2 more directly from this issue. so, only jusdging from your comments and our own very limited experience, this is where i would start. best of luck man!
