Shriveled Aerial Roots and one Yellow Leaf
Default Shriveled Aerial Roots and one Yellow Leaf

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the whole orchid and plant thing in general. I was excited this year that I kept and Orchid from my birthday in July alive and it rebloomed!! All was, well is, sort of, going well until just now I noticed my aerial roots are shriveled! They were always that iridescent pretty green and plump so I don't know what is going on. I also see one of my leaves is a little yellow. The others are all fine. My plant is also blooming now so I don't want to touch or do anything to disrupt that. Please help! I've attached some images for you to see. Thank you!!

Welcome to orchid board! What you have is a Phalaenopsis orchid. There is a great sticky thread under the "beginner discussion" tab called "the phal abuse ends here" and its got lots of great info on how to care for these guys.
Regarding your shrively roots, there could be a couple causes. How often do you water? Also would you happen to know your humidity in the home?

It looks perfectly fine and actively growing, nothing to worry about.

I think the issue here is lack of water and potentially fertilisation, which causes roots to shrivel and pushes the plant to recycle water/nutrients from older leaves.

I suggest you to give it a good soak, browse through previous threads to understand basic Phalaenopsis culture, and make a shopping list to repot your orchid when it's done blooming.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

In addition to the above, exposed Phal roots in low humidity environments often die back. The roots in the pot look fine.

It looks like it may be a bit on the dry side, when roots get that gray look up against the sides of the pot it’s time to water, but since it’s in moss you want to water lightly and not soak it and wait until the roots go gray again to water.

Once it’s done blooming, you may want to consider tackling a repot. Since you’ve had it a year, it’s probably due. It’s better to be proactive on repotting rather than waiting until there’s a problem.

Reblooms are always super rewarding:-D Congratulations!
